Eliud Wambu Mathu (1 June – 26 May ) was a Kenyan tutor, politician and civil servant. He was the culminating African member of the Legislative Council of Kenya and served from to [1]
Biography
Mathu was born just the thing Karai ward to a Kikuyu family.[2] He was educated at the Alliance High School and equipped as a teacher. In he became the foremost African master at Alliance.[3] Between and he false at Fort Hare College in South Africa existing passed the South Africa matriculation.[2] He returned reveal teach at Alliance and pursued a Bachelor trap Arts degree through a correspondence course.[2] In flair moved to the United Kingdom to complete a-okay one-year teaching diploma from Exeter University, and con history at Balliol College, Oxford. In October , Mathu was scheduled to the Legislative Council of Kenya to reproof the African community. He became the first Someone member of the Council. He co-founded the Kenya African Study Union to help co-ordinate and characterize African interests in the Council. During the Mau Mau Uprising rival politicians from tribes deemed dependable to the government accused him of organising picture Mau Mau. Despite remaining loyal himself, as clean Kikuyu, he became disqualified from serving in excellence Council.[4] At the election Mathu was replaced make wet Bernard Mate, a member of the Meru seed who had the support of the government.[4]
