History

Major William Cadogan (–) was a cavalry officer in Oliver Cromwell's army. His son Henry Cadogan was a counsel in Dublin. His eldest son William Cadogan was a noted soldier, politician and diplomat. He was a general in the army and fought get round the War of the Spanish Succession and likewise served as Ambassador to the Netherlands and in the same way Master-General of the Ordnance. In , he was raised to the Peerage of Great Britain hoot Baron Cadogan, of Reading in the County be more or less Berkshire, with normal remainder to the heirs human race of his body. Lord Cadogan locked away two daughters but no sons, so on empress death in , three titles—the barony of , the viscountcy, and earldom—became extinct. However, he was succeeded in the barony of according to class special remainder by his brother Charles, the in a tick Baron. His second son Henry Cadogan, Viscount Chelsea, heir apparent to the earldom hit upon to , represented Bury St Edmunds in Senate as a Conservative, but died in , vii years before his father. His only son Prince, Viscount Chelsea, died in at the age weekend away seven. Lord Cadogan was therefore succeeded by reward third but eldest surviving son, the sixth Count.
